Kolkata, 30 March (H.S.): Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday raised serious concerns over the electoral process in West Bengal, alleging attempts to interfere with the democratic rights of voters and seeking a response from the Election Commission of India.
In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee claimed there were growing indications of a coordinated effort, allegedly involving the Bharatiya Janata Party, to influence voter rolls.
He said credible reports had been received from several districts regarding the submission of a large number of Form-6 applications (meant for new voters) in a questionable manner. According to him, these were not routine additions, and concerns had been raised that many entries could be linked to individuals with no genuine connection to the state.
Banerjee also referred to a video purportedly showing bulk processing and stacking of such forms, raising questions about the scale and intent behind the exercise.
He noted that similar concerns had been flagged in other states during elections and asserted that West Bengal should not be allowed to face such a situation.
Urging people to remain vigilant, the TMC leader said the issue was not merely political but related to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
He called upon the Election Commission to clarify the matter and take necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections.
