Varanasi,

30 March (HS): A 16-year-old boy was reportedly clubbed to death with sticks

here on suspicion of cellphone theft, police said on Monday. According to

authorities, on Saturday night, while Sonu Ali (16) was at home, six persons

entered and accused him of stealing a phone. In her complaint, the victim's

mother said that the accused, Ramesh alias Bablu Patel, forced her son into an

underpass near a fuel pump in Panditpur and struck him with sticks, gravely

injuring him. The accused thereafter brought him to the Bhadwar police station

and continued to make theft accusations. Police later transported Ali to a

hospital, where doctors ruled him dead.

According

to Rohania Station House Officer (SHO) Raju Singh, a FIR was filed against

Ramesh alias Bablu Patel, Ravi Patel, Rohit, Govind, Gaurav Pal, Azad Ali, and

an unnamed individual following his mother's allegation. Ramesh has been

detained in the case, and attempts are on to catch the remaining defendants,

according to the officer. He stated that a thorough investigation is underway

on the case.
