New Delhi, 28 March (H.S.):
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a 130.65 crore rupee contract for the construction of grade‑separated flyovers and underpasses on the Jaipur bypass along National Highway‑48 to Maruti Infracreation Private Limited. The project, aimed at easing heavy traffic at one of the city’s busiest junctions, will see the development of two underpasses and two elevated flyovers designed to allow uninterrupted movement of vehicles travelling between Delhi, Ajmer and Jaipur’s core areas.
Under the scheme, NHAI plans to build two underpasses: one for traffic moving from Delhi towards Mansarovar and the other for vehicles heading from Mansarovar back towards Delhi. In addition, two overhead road bridges will be constructed to carry Jaipur–Ajmer and Ajmer–Delhi traffic, eliminating the need for vehicles to stop at traffic signals.
The junction lies at a critical convergence point where high‑volume flows from Delhi, Ajmer and central Jaipur overlap, making it prone to frequent gridlocks and delays.
Currently, motorists have to wait at traffic signals, increasing travel time, fuel consumption and accident risks, especially during peak hours. By removing the at‑grade intersections and shifting through‑traffic to elevated and underground structures, officials say the project will significantly reduce congestion, improve road‑safety standards and cut emission‑linked fuel burn for commuters and freight operators.
Once completed, the grade‑separated flyovers and underpasses are expected to streamline traffic flow at the bypass, allowing smoother transitions between the city’s inner ring and the Delhi–Mumbai corridor. The improved infrastructure will also support logistics and commercial transport by reducing transit time between Jaipur and major hubs along NH‑48, while simultaneously easing local commuter movement within the metropolitan belt.
NHAI officials describe the 130.65 crore package as a key step in augmenting the capacity and safety of the national‑highway network around Jaipur, aligning with the central government’s broader push to upgrade congested urban nodes with modern interchange‑style infrastructure.
The work under Maruti Infracreation is scheduled to be completed within a stipulated timeframe, with the authority monitoring progress to ensure minimal disruption to the existing traffic during construction.
