Kolkata, 24 March (H.S.):

A political controversy has erupted ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal and three other states, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, over a purported Election Commission document allegedly bearing a BJP seal.

The authenticity of the document, however, could not be independently verified.

The issue triggered reactions across political circles after the document surfaced in the public domain. Abhishek Banerjee took to social media platform X to voice his concerns.

In his post on Tuesday, Banerjee alleged that the authority of the judiciary has been gradually undermined and referred to the removal of the Chief Justice of India from the panel for selecting the Chief Election Commissioner.

“If this trend continues, Supreme Court judgments may soon appear to carry political imprints,” he said.

There has been no detailed official response so far, and the veracity of the document remains unconfirmed.
