Guwahati, 24 March (HS): Assam on Tuesday intensified its fight against Tuberculosis with the launch of the “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Campaign” at the CN Centre of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), marking World Tuberculosis Day 2026.

The campaign aims to accelerate efforts toward TB elimination through a focused 100-day Action Plan that prioritizes enhanced case detection, improved treatment adherence and expanded nutritional support for patients across the state. The initiative underscores a renewed push for community-led participation in tackling the disease.

During the event, TB Champions—survivors actively engaged in awareness and advocacy—and Ni-kshay Mitras, who provide support to TB patients, were felicitated to encourage social mobilization. A signature campaign was also launched, symbolizing a collective pledge to achieve a TB-free Assam.

Senior officials highlighted the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration, with participation from private sector representatives emphasizing the role of corporate social responsibility in strengthening public health initiatives.

The programme was attended by key health officials, including Dr. Lakshmanan S., Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Assam and Dr. Umesh Phangcho, Director of Health Services (DHS), Assam, among others.

Officials reiterated that the theme “Yes! We can end TB” reflects an achievable goal, driven by people’s participation and sustained efforts. They noted that the next 100 days would be crucial in ensuring comprehensive screening, timely treatment and support for vulnerable populations.

The campaign will focus on grassroots-level engagement across all districts, aiming to convert the momentum of World TB Day into long-term health outcomes in Assam.-----------
