Kolkata, 24 March (H.S.): A 50-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death inside a beauty parlour in Garia area of Kolkata, while a youth was later found dead inside the premises, with police suspecting a case of murder followed by suicide, an officer said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Mahamayatala under Narendrapur Police Station area.

The deceased woman has been identified as Rupbani Das, who owned and operated the beauty parlour.

According to police sources, a youth, suspected to be a resident of Kashmir, entered the parlour and attacked the woman indiscriminately with a sharp weapon. She collapsed on the floor in a pool of blood. Terrified by the incident, nearby shopkeepers fled the area.

On information, a large police force rushed to the spot and rescued the critically injured woman, who was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Subsequently, the body of the youth was recovered from inside the parlour. His identity is yet to be established and efforts are on to ascertain the same.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the youth died by suicide after killing the woman, possibly due to strained personal relations, the police said.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway.

The incident has caused panic in the area and raised questions over security, especially ahead of the elections, despite deployment of central forces in several parts of the state.
