Mainpuri,

23 March (HS): A brief period of tension erupted in Kuraoli town here following

a disagreement among certain residents over the location for Eid namaz, but the

issue was resolved after the government intervened, authorities said on Monday.

The argument arose on March 21 when some individuals insisted on giving namaz

at a chabutra in an adjacent field across the road from the idgah, saying that

prayers had previously been performed there. Others in the Muslim community,

however, insisted that the namaz be offered within the Idgah, as is customary. The

incident resulted in heated arguments between some people and police, with

footage subsequently circulating on social media, adding to the tension.

Inspector

Lalit Bhati and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Neeraj Kumar Dwivedi intervened and

instructed the crowd to follow the traditional practice of giving prayers

within the idgah. The issue was eventually addressed thanks to the engagement

of community elders and religious leaders. Following the intervention, both

parties decided to say namaz in the idgah. Inspector Bhati stated that prayers

were finally held in a calm and cordial environment at the idgah, where they

are held annually. SDM Dwivedi stated that some youngsters first planned to

worship at the other location, but eventually consented to move to the idgah

after being counseled by the administration and older members of the community.

Asif Raja

Aslam, Imam of Kuraoli Idgah, stated that the conflict began as a result of

misunderstanding and was settled peacefully with the assistance of the police

and administration. He urged people not to share or engage with deceptive

postings on social media. Sajjada Nashin of Main Idgah, Mainpuri, Abdul Rahman

Kishti alias Bablu Mian, further stated that quick involvement by officials and

community leaders ensured that prayers were conducted quietly, averting any

disturbance to communal harmony in town.
