Kolkata, 02 March (H.S.): A piece of concrete suddenly fell from the exterior of Central Park Metro Station on the Kolkata Metro's Green Line in Salt Lake on Monday morning. The incident caused panic in the area and raised questions about the safety of the metro service.
According to eyewitnesses, a portion of concrete fell onto the road below the station during rush hour on Monday morning. The cement layer of the station's lower section was also seen peeling off in some places. Traffic on the road was heavy at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On information, the police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the affected area for safety. The Metro Rail administration was also informed. Metro officials and engineers inspected the scene and assessed the situation.
According to Metro sources, an investigation is underway to determine whether the cause of the collapse was a defect in the quality of construction materials or a maintenance lapse. Officials stated that repairs to the affected area will begin soon.
Notably, last year, after cracks were discovered in the pillars of the Kavi Subhash Metro Station on the Blue Line, the station was closed and a decision was made to rebuild it. Consequently, this incident at the relatively new Central Park Metro Station has increased fear and confusion among commuters.
Following the incident, passengers and locals are concerned about whether metro service on the Green Line will remain completely safe. However, the Metro administration has assured that service will not be affected for the time being and that safety will not be compromised.
