
Cooch Behar, 02 March (H.S.): Two Totos (e-rickshaws) were mysteriously recovered from a former Panchayat Pradhan's pond in Votbari area in Mekhliganj of Cooch Behar district on Monday. A large crowd gathered in the area following the incident.
As per information, the two Totos were discovered underwater in the pond belonging to former Votbari Pradhan Mrityunjay Singh Sarkar.
Mrityunjay Singh said that for the past few days, something had been floating in the pond. From a distance, it appeared someone had thrown a piece of plastic or tarpaulin. On Monday morning, when a person entered the pond to remove the plastic, they discovered it was the roof of the Toto. Upon further investigation, the entire Toto was found submerged. Upon further investigation, another Toto was also found nearby.
Mekhliganj police station police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The former Pradhan suspects that some unknown persons submerged the Totos in the pond several days ago and fled.
With the help of local residents and a crane, the police pulled both Totos out of the pond. The process of identifying the owners has been initiated by examining the Totos' license plates and engine numbers. The police suspect a major theft gang may be involved in this case.
