
Nagpur, 02 Mar
(HS): The contribution of all former mayors, irrespective of their political affiliation,
in the development of Nagpur is worth appreciating. The rich culture and history of
Nagpur and Nagpur Municipal Corporation should be preserved, said Union
Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Gadkari was
speaking during a function to mark 75th foundation day of Nagpur
Municipal Corporation on Monday. Mayor Neeta Thakre was in the chair. Former
Mayors and Deputy Mayors were felicitated on the occasion. Padma Shri awardee
homoeopath Dr Vilas Dangre was also felicitated.
Legislators
Sandip Joshi, Pravin Datke, Mohan Mate, Krishna Khopde, Vikas Thakre, Deputy
Mayor Leela Hathibed, former legislators Vikas Kumbhare, former mayors
Dayashankat Tiwari, Kunda Vijaykar, Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant,
Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B were present.
Neeta Thakre said
that she is duty-bound to fulfil the expectations of people of Nagpur. Development
of the city is to in her priority list. Her plans can be implemented with the
support of experience of all former mayors and other office bearers.
Municipal
Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari made introductory remarks. Former Mayor
Dayashankar Tiwari and recalled contributions by every former mayor. Vikas
Thakre also expressed his views on the occasion.
At the outset the
statue of the first Mayor Bar Sheshrao Wankhede was garlanded. A two-minute silence
was observed to pay tributes to departed souls in explosive factory in Nagpur
on Suday.
