Guwahati, 02 March (HS): The Assam BJP on Monday accused the Congress of indulging in “Miya appeasement” and compromising Assam’s cultural identity for electoral gains. Addressing the media at the party headquarters, BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sarmah alleged that the Congress had promised to reinstate evicted encroachers on government and forest land.
He further claimed that under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress was opposing eviction drives carried out by the state government and attempting to project a narrative against them. Sarmah also criticised the party over its campaign content, terming as offensive an alleged comparison involving the sacred Namghar.
The BJP asserted that the state government, led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, has resolved to clear large tracts of encroached land and protect indigenous rights and accused the Congress of prioritising vote-bank politics over the interests of Assam and its people.----------
