New Delhi, 18 March (H.S.):

Former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti has taken charge as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) in New Delhi. On Wednesday, she assumed office at the NCBC headquarters in the national capital and formally began her tenure leading the constitutional body responsible for safeguarding the interests of Other Backward Classes.

In a social‑media post sharing photographs from the occasion, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for entrusting her with this responsibility dedicated to the dignity, rights and holistic development of the backward communities. She described the post as a “commitment‑filled duty” aimed at advancing justice and equality for OBC sections.

The NCBC, she added, is resolved to ensure that the backward classes receive equal opportunities in justice, security, dignity and development. The commission, she said, will work with full dedication, transparency and sensitivity to drive the all‑round upliftment of the backward segments and give effect to these ideals in policy and practice.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, a former three‑time MP from Uttar Pradesh and erstwhile Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Rural Development, has been a prominent figure in national politics, and her appointment is seen as part of the government’s ongoing focus on institutional representation and empowerment of backward classes.
