Assam to Expand PNG Connections Amid LPG Supply Concerns

Guwahati, 18 March 18 (HS): In response to the evolving LPG supply situation and related geopolitical factors, the Government of Assam has reviewed its energy strategy and initiated steps to expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections across the state.

The review has been conducted in accordance with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with a focus on ensuring reliable and convenient energy access for residents. Authorities stated that expanding PNG coverage will help strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on LPG.

Key agencies, including Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited (PBGPL), and North East Gas Distribution Company Limited (NEGDCL), are currently engaged in developing the required PNG infrastructure in selected districts of the state.

Officials clarified that for the time being PNG connections will be provided only in areas where pipeline infrastructure is available. The expansion of infrastructure is set to be undertaken in phases beginning from July.

The initiative aims to provide citizens with a safe, cost-effective, and convenient natural gas supply while gradually reducing reliance on conventional LPG sources.---------
