Bhubaneswar, 18 March (H.S.): Odisha has a total of 193 operational food processing units, MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik informed the Assembly.

The Minister provided the information in response to a query raised by MLA Laxman Munda regarding the number of food processing units in the state. Citing data from the AIM 2.0 (Administration of Incentives for MSMEs & Large Industries) portal, he stated that 193 such units are currently functioning in Odisha.

Highlighting the broader MSME landscape, the Minister said that a total of 7,52,379 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) had been registered in the state up to 2023–24 through the Udyam Registration Portal. Of these, 6,36,763 units were operational as of March 2025, generating employment for approximately 48,56,612 people.

He added that data regarding closed MSME units would be available only after the completion of the Industrial Census.

The Minister further informed that the state government has received 677 proposals for setting up food processing units under the ALM 2.0 portal, indicating growing interest and investment in the sector.
