Bhubaneswar: Puri Lok Sabha MP Dr. Sambit Patra met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presented him with the sacred prasad of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath during their meeting. The MP stated that he received the Prime Minister’s warm support and guidance on the occasion and expressed gratitude for the time extended to him. Dr. Patra shared details of the meeting through his social media handle.

During the interaction, Dr. Patra briefed the Prime Minister about the historic ‘Panchu Dola Mela,’ held in Malud village under Krushnaprasad Block in the Puri parliamentary constituency, nestled along the shores of Chilika Lake. He highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of the event and also presented photographs from this year’s celebration. According to the MP, the Prime Minister expressed happiness upon learning about the tradition and conveyed pride in Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.

In addition, Dr. Patra presented the renowned traditional handicraft ‘Chandua’ from Pipili in Puri district. He elaborated on its artistic features, historical background, and cultural importance. The Prime Minister, on this occasion, underscored the significance of promoting local craftsmanship and emphasized the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local.’

‘Chandua’ holds a special place in the cultural traditions of Utkal. This vibrant appliqué art is widely used in temple decorations, religious processions, chariots, and various festivals, symbolizing Odisha’s rich artistic legacy. Dr. Patra stated that such initiatives help strengthen and showcase Odisha’s cultural identity on the national stage.
