Lucknow, 15
March (HS): Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay has
expressed strong objection to a question asked in the Uttar Pradesh Police
Sub-Inspector recruitment exam. He said that the word pandit given
as a one-word option for one who changes according to the occasion
is not only inappropriate but also lacks any justification. The Higher
Education Minister stated that this type of question and its options are not
appropriate in any way, and that this act appears to have been deliberately
committed by a mentally challenged paper-setter. He added that such actions
affect social harmony and hurt the sentiments of a particular class.
Yogendra
Upadhyay said that using words associated with any caste, class, or tradition
in such a derogatory context is unacceptable. He added that a similar offensive
situation arose recently regarding a film title, which society took seriously.
He stated
that the process of preparing examination question papers is highly
confidential, and it is not difficult to identify the individuals involved.
Therefore, this matter should be investigated, the relevant paper setter
identified, and strict action should be taken against them, so that such
incidents that hurt the sentiments of any community or group do not recur in
the future. The Higher Education Minister stated that maintaining social
harmony and unity is everyone's responsibility, and therefore, this type of
insensitivity cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
