Kolkata, 15 March (H.S.): The West Bengal government has transferred 27 police inspectors across the state ahead of the announcement of the assembly election schedule, officials said on Sunday.

According to an official list, two inspectors posted in the Diamond Harbour police district have been transferred as part of the reshuffle. Inspector Shibu Das has been posted as the officer-in-charge of Rampurhat police station, while Nirupam Mondal has been brought in as inspector in the Diamond Harbour police district. Mondal was earlier the officer-in-charge of Nodakhali police station in the same district.

Changes have also been made in the state’s intelligence set-up. Inspector Susim Ganguly of the Intelligence Branch has been posted as the officer-in-charge of Nodakhali police station, while Anupam Mondal has been posted there in another capacity.

In another move, CID inspector Sudipta Chakraborty has been appointed officer-in-charge of Serampore police station, while Sanjeev Chakraborty has been posted in his place in the Criminal Investigation Department.

Transfers have also been carried out at the inspector level in several districts, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Purba Bardhaman, Alipurduar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Paschim Medinipur, Malda, Birbhum and Ranaghat police district, among others.

The reshuffle comes ahead of the expected announcement of the assembly poll schedule by the Election Commission of India on Sunday evening. However, police sources said the transfers were part of routine administrative changes.

Earlier in January, 19 inspectors had been transferred in a similar exercise.
