March (HS): Under the centrally funded scheme of the Government of India,
Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program, a massive campaign is being run to make
illiterate adults literate in the state. In this sequence, the second phase of
literacy test for illiterates in the age group of 15+ will be conducted on
March 15, 2026, at approximately 35,140 literacy test centers in the state.
Information about the participation of 4,25,600 illiterates in this test has
been registered on the Ullas portal of the Government of India till March 13,
2026.
State
Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh stated
that the main objective of the Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program is to provide
basic literacy and numeracy to illiterate individuals over the age of 15. Under
this scheme, the goal is to make 75 percent of women and 25 percent of male
illiterates literate. The target is to make 1 million illiterates literate in
the state in the financial year 2025-26.
He
explained that, as directed by the Government of India, the literacy test is
conducted in two phases each financial year. This year, the first phase of the
test was held on September 21, 2025, in which a total of 143,946 identified
illiterates participated. Of these, 122,146 participants were successful, which
demonstrates the program's effectiveness. The Minister stated that the Yogi
government is continuously striving to spread education and expand literacy, so
that every section of society can access education.
Additional
Chief Secretary of Basic and Secondary Education, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma,
stated that extensive preparations have been made in all districts for the
successful conduct of the examination. Necessary instructions have been issued
to all divisional assistant directors of education (basic) and district basic
education officers for the inspection and supervision of literacy examination centers
designated at the district level.
He
informed that the Government of India has made arrangements to shortlist
participants on the ULAS portal until March 14, 2026, which is likely to
further increase the number of participants taking the exam. The state
government is striving to make as many adult illiterates literate as possible
and integrate them into the mainstream of society.
