Mahila Cong slams Govt over rising prices

Srinagar, 14 March (H.S.): Accusing the BJP-led central Government of failing to control inflation, J&K Pradesh Mahila Congress president Shameema Raina today said the continuous rise in prices of essential commodities has placed an unbearable financial burden on ordinary households, particularly women.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress party headquarters here, Raina said the recent hike in LPG cylinder prices, including commercial cylinders, along with the rising cost of petrol and diesel, has significantly increased household expenditure and made it difficult for families to manage daily needs.

She said women are bearing the brunt of inflation as they are primarily responsible for managing household budgets.

“Prices are increasing continuously and poor women are suffering the most, but the government is not taking any serious steps to provide relief,” she said.

Raina said Congress leaders and party workers are raising the issue of rising prices both on the streets and in Parliament, accusing the government of failing to address the economic challenges faced by the public.

She said inflation has emerged as one of the most serious concerns for ordinary citizens, affecting farmers, labourers, middle-class families and homemakers who are struggling to cope with the rising cost of living. The increase in petrol and diesel prices has had a cascading effect on transportation and the cost of goods, contributing to the rise in prices of essential commodities, she added.

Raina also highlighted the sharp increase in the prices of LPG cylinders, cooking oil, pulses, vegetables and other daily-use items, stating that rising costs have placed severe pressure on household budgets and weakened the financial stability of many families.
