Kolkata, 14 March (H.S.): The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested a Bangladeshi national allegedly involved in facilitating illegal cross-border movement in connection with the Hadi murder case in Bangladesh, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Philip Sangma, was arrested early in the morning from an area near Shantipur Bypass following a tip-off.

According to the police, during the interrogation of two accused in the Bangladesh Hadi murder case, identified as Faisal and Alamgir, it emerged that a Bangladeshi national named Philip had helped them cross the Indo-Bangladesh border through Meghalaya.

Investigators said Philip himself later entered India illegally through the same route.

During initial questioning, Sangma admitted that he worked as a border tout and facilitated illegal migrants in crossing the border through the Haluaghat (Bangladesh)–Dalupara (Meghalaya, India) route in exchange for money.

He also allegedly admitted that he had helped Faisal and Alamgir enter India after the murder case in Bangladesh.

The police said Sangma later entered India illegally due to pressure from law enforcement agencies and stayed at various locations while maintaining contact with the two accused.

The accused was produced before a court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for further investigation, officials added.
