The capacity of the waste processing unit at Nagpur’s Bhandewadi Dumping Yard
is being increased by 20 per cent. The existing unit processes about 900 to 1,000
tonnes of waste per day, which will go up to 1,200 tonnes per day/ A compressed
biogas plant is being constructed over 30 acres of land in the area, which is
expected to be operational by May 2026. The information was provided by
Minister of State Madhuri Misal in reply to a question by Sachin Ahir in the
Legislative Council.
Misal said that a
sewage water treatment plant is being constructed on 17 acres out of 55 acres
land of Bhandewadi Yard, which has capacity to process 200 MLD sewage water.
Another plant with a capcity to process 130 MLD water is being planned.
Nagpur Municipal
Corporation has awarded the work to a private company on BOT basis for a period
of five years. Presently 500 tonnes of garbage is processed at one place and
700 tonnes of garbage is handled on 10 acres of Bhoomi Green Energy, Misal
said.
