Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : Security agencies in Chennai have been placed on high alert following the busting of a major terror module funded by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). In a coordinated operation, intelligence units and the Special Cell intercepted a network that was allegedly planning subversive activities across the country.
According to recent updates, six suspects were apprehended from various locations in Tamil Nadu, including textile hubs near Tiruppur, while two others were nabbed in West Bengal. The module, which reportedly had links to both the ISI and extremist groups in Bangladesh, was reportedly being handled by a Kashmir native operating from a neighboring country.
Investigations conducted by the authorities revealed that the suspects had been using forged Aadhaar cards to conceal their true identities while working in the garment industry.
Digital evidence seized during the raids, including eight mobile phones and sixteen SIM cards, showed that the operatives were in contact through encrypted social media platforms.
The module first came under the scanner after several provocative posters appeared in national capital regions during an international summit. Further updates from the investigation indicate that members of this group had conducted a reconnaissance of several sensitive cities.
Security has been significantly tightened at major landmarks and religious sites in Chennai following these arrests. Local police officials and central agencies are now focusing on tracing the financial trail to identify local collaborators and other potential sleeper cells.
The arrested individuals are currently being moved to Delhi for further interrogation as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Special Cell work to dismantle the wider network.
Authorities stated that this operation has successfully prevented a major untoward incident, though the search for remaining associates continues across South India.
