
Imphal, 23 February (HS): Security forces in Manipur have arrested a rebel from the banned insurgent outfit People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), during a joint operation, police said on Monday.
According to information shared by Manipur Police Headquarters, the arrested rebel has been identified as Khundom Momocha Meitei alias Yaiphaba (31). He was apprehended from his residence at Yairbung Khunou under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district for his alleged involvement in extortion activities. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.
In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested Md. Ansh (29) from his residence at Lilong Tharorok under Lilong police station in Thoubal district. Police recovered 730 bottles of codeine phosphate syrup from his possession. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the police have continued their drive against motor vehicle violations across the state. Between February 16 and 22, as many as 105 challans were issued, amounting to a total fine of ₹1.80 lakh. Additionally, tinted films were removed from 12 vehicles between February 15 and 21.
Security forces have also intensified search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across hill and valley districts. A total of 116 nakas and checkpoints were set up in different districts, though no detentions were reported during the checking operations.
