Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially published the final electoral rolls for Tamil Nadu following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.
According to the data released by the Chief Electoral Officer in Chennai, the state’s total electorate now stands at 5,67,07,380 voters. The gender breakdown of the roll reveals that women voters continue to outnumber men, with 2,89,60,838 female electors compared to 2,77,38,925 male electors. Additionally, the rolls include 7,617 voters registered under the third gender category.
The intensive revision process, which concluded recently, saw the inclusion of 27.53 lakh new voters. A significant highlight of this update is the inclusion of 12.51 lakh first-time voters in the 18-19 age group, indicating a robust participation of youth in the democratic process.
During the revision period, authorities received approximately 34.75 lakh applications for inclusions, deletions, and corrections. While millions were added, the ECI also deleted 4.23 lakh names due to reasons such as death, shifting of residence, or duplicate entries, ensuring a clean and accurate database ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
According to statements from the Chief Electoral Officer, Archana Patnaik, the revision was conducted with a focus on urban areas to address the higher rate of voter migration and deletions. The final rolls have been made available at all designated locations, including polling stations and revenue offices across the state, for public verification.
Citizens can also check their names and polling booth details through the official ECI portal or the Voter Helpline app. This final list will serve as the foundation for the 2026 Assembly elections, with authorities emphasizing that the process was handled with complete transparency to ensure no eligible citizen is left behind.
