Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : The Chennai police have launched an intensive manhunt for a 50-year-old man and a woman in connection with the horrific sexual abuse and impregnation of the woman's 20-year-old daughter.
The accused, identified as Dakshinamoorthy, was an acquaintance of the mother and frequently visited their residence. According to the survivor’s statement, the abuse took place under the influence of sedatives allegedly administered by her own mother on multiple occasions since January this year.
On one such instance, despite being in a drowsy state, the victim discovered the accused attempting to assault her but managed to resist and escape his immediate clutches.
In a distressing turn of events, the mother reportedly confined her daughter to a bedroom following the failed resistance to prevent her from seeking help. However, the survivor managed to escape the confinement and sought refuge at her aunt's house in Tiruvannamalai.
The crime came to light on February 18, when the young woman was admitted to a government hospital after suffering from severe abdominal pain. Doctors informed her that she was seven weeks pregnant, and with her consent, the pregnancy was medically terminated. A formal case has since been registered, and special teams have been formed to track down the fleeing duo.
Latest updates from the Chennai police indicates that multiple locations are being raided to secure the arrests of Dakshinamoorthy and the victim's mother. Authorities are also investigating if any other individuals were involved in facilitating the crime or the subsequent confinement.
The local police have coordinated with their counterparts in Tiruvannamalai to gather further evidence and provide necessary protection to the survivor. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with calls for stringent action against the perpetrators of such a heinous crime.
