Ancient Puleeshwari Amman Temple Secures Place In World Records

Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : The Puleeshwari Amman Temple located near Kollidam in the Mayiladuthurai district has achieved a prestigious milestone by being inducted into the Jackhi Book of World Records.

This recognition was granted after official verification confirmed that it is the only temple in the entire world to bear the unique name Puleeshwari Amman. Managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, the shrine holds immense historical and spiritual significance, being identified as the 50th among the 108 Shakti Peethas. The news has brought immense joy to the devotee community and the local residents of the region.

Historical research has further solidified the temple's importance, revealing deep connections to ancient Sangam-era classics such as Silappathikaram and Agananooru. While the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) records document a history spanning 150 years, its literary roots suggest an even older heritage.

The push for global recognition was spearheaded by spiritual scholar Prabhu of Kollidam, who meticulously submitted the temple's unique features and naming status for review. Authorities from the HR&CE Department stated that this world record highlights the cultural wealth and distinct identity of Tamil Nadu's religious landmarks.

Updates from the temple management indicate that there has been a surge in visitor interest following the announcement. The acknowledgment is expected to boost spiritual tourism in the Seerkazhi area, bringing more attention to the temple's unique architectural and literary associations.

Local authorities are now looking into improving infrastructure to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims visiting this newly recognized global landmark. The temple stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Tamil literature and the state's rich spiritual tradition.
