Hooghly, 05 January (H.S.): A train's pantograph broke and fell near Bansberia station on the Howrah-Katwa rail line on Sunday evening. This incident halted train operations, and trains were stranded for extended periods at several stations, including Chuchura. Passengers faced considerable difficulties.
According to railway sources, the pantograph, connected to the overhead wire, broke near Bansberia station on Sunday evening, bringing the train to a standstill. On information, railway engineers and technical staff rushed to the spot and began repair work. Due to this technical fault, train operations on the Up Bandel and Up Katwa lines were completely suspended.
An Up Katwa local train remained stranded on platform number three at Chuchura station for more than an hour. Trains on the Down line and the reverse line were being operated via the Bandel and Burdwan main lines. However, the stranded Katwa local train exacerbated the passengers' difficulties. A Howrah-Burdwan Main local train also stopped before entering Bandel station.
A passenger said, “The train has been standing still for about an hour and a half. I boarded the train from Howrah to go to Katwa. Suddenly, the train stopped. Later, we learned that there was some problem with the overhead wire. Now I don't know how I will reach my destination.” Other passengers also expressed similar concerns.
Eastern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Bed Prakash, said, “There is a problem with the overhead wire. Railway personnel have reached the spot for repairs. This technical fault occurred beyond Bansberia station. Train operations will resume soon.”
