Mamata Banerjee to move court over SIR

Kolkata, 05 January (H.S.): On the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has now announced that she will approach the court. Speaking from Gangasagar on Monday, the Chief Minister said that she would go to court as soon as it opens on Tuesday. She also made it clear that if necessary, she would personally present her case.

The Chief Minister directly targeted the Election Commission regarding the SIR, saying that this is a fight for survival. She said, We are also taking recourse to the law and will follow that path. Mamata Banerjee said that so many people are dying, and people are being harassed. If needed, she will file an application herself and seek permission from the court to speak. She clarified that she would present her case in court not as a lawyer, but as an ordinary citizen, and would present the ground realities.

The Chief Minister once again took a dig at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar without naming him. She said in sharp words, Mr. Vanish Kumar, there will be no detention camps in Bengal. Mamata reiterated that people want to come forward to add their names to the SIR, but this process should not have been done in a hurry, but should have been completed over a period of two years.

The Chief Minister also alleged that during the hearings under the guise of SIR, elderly people and pregnant women are facing serious difficulties. She said that such a process is inhumane and cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
