
Mumbai, 05 January (H.S.): Malayalam cinema witnessed a major loss with the demise of noted actor and production controller Kannan Pattambi. He passed away at the age of 62 at around 11:40 pm on January 4 at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala. He had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged kidney-related ailment.
The actor’s demise was confirmed by his brother, filmmaker and actor Major Ravi. Paying tribute on social media, Major Ravi said that his beloved brother Kannan Pattambi passed away late on Sunday night. He also informed that the last rites will be performed on January 5 at 4 pm at their ancestral residence in Pattambi’s Njangattiri area.
Following the announcement, a wave of grief swept through the Malayalam film industry, with colleagues and fans expressing their condolences and paying tributes on social media.
Kannan Pattambi was a respected name in the Malayalam film industry and made significant contributions both as an actor and as a production controller. He earned special recognition for his work in films based on military and national security themes. His widely acclaimed film Mission 90 Days, based on the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, received critical appreciation.
He also appeared in several prominent films alongside Mohanlal, including Joseph, Odiyan and the blockbuster Pulimurugan, which achieved the distinction of becoming the first Malayalam film to cross the Rs 100-crore mark at the box office. His passing marks the loss of an important pillar of Malayalam cinema.
