Delhi, 05 January (H.S.): The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the bail applications of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the case related to the Delhi riots. Reacting to the verdict, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched sharp criticism against the Congress, asserting that the Supreme Court’s decision is a major setback for Rahul Gandhi and the entire Congress ecosystem.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters, BJP spokesperson shehzad Poonawalla stated that today’s Supreme Court ruling has caused deep distress and pain for those involved in the “Tukde Tukde Gang.” He emphasized that the manner in which these acts were carried out demonstrates that the Delhi riots were not mere coincidence or spontaneous events, but a well-planned conspiracy.
Poonawala further alleged that the riots were orchestrated with the intent of inciting anti-Hindu sentiment and exploiting vote-bank politics, calling it the biggest industry of its kind.
The Supreme Court refused to grant bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, accused in the conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots, stating that a prima facie case exists against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
