New Delhi, 05 January (H.S.): The Somnath Temple marks 1,000 years since its destruction by Mahmud of Ghazni, and today stands once again as a center of faith and reverence. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described the Somnath Temple as a luminous symbol of India’s eternal spiritual strength.

At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters on Monday, spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the day serves as a reminder that whenever India’s religious and spiritual power has been targeted by barbaric invasions, the nation has always responded with a luminous force, bringing new light to the world. He emphasized that history is filled with pivotal moments and dates that are unforgettable, especially those marked by intolerable attacks, which must be remembered to prevent their recurrence in the future.

Trivedi highlighted that Somnath is not merely an object of faith, but a Shiva Lingam believed to destroy sins, bestow virtues, fulfill wishes, and open the path to heaven upon mere sight. He recalled that when Somnath was being reconstructed, India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, stated on May 11, 1951, that the temple’s true restoration would be achieved not just when the grand idol and temple were reinstated, but when India’s prosperity also reached new heights—the same prosperity that had once attracted ruthless and barbaric attacks.

Trivedi further noted that despite strong opposition from Jawaharlal Nehru, the dream of Somnath’s reconstruction was realized in 1951 in the presence of Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Today, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is progressing toward prosperity, and the vision for Somnath is nearing fulfillment. The resolve associated with Somnath is visibly being realized in contemporary India.
