Tamil Nadu braces for cooler weather, fog and light rain; Chennai to see cloudy skies

Chennai, 05 January (H.S.) : The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a weather forecast indicating a shift toward cooler temperatures and light rainfall across Tamil nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next few days.

According to the weather office, an atmospheric lower-level circulation is currently prevailing over the Maldives and the adjoining Lakshadweep region. Additionally, an upper-level circulation is situated over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal near the Equator. These conditions are expected to influence the regional weather patterns significantly through the first week of January.

While dry weather is projected for most of the state on January 5 and 6, the meteorological department has predicted light to moderate rain at a few places along the coastal regions of Tamil nadu starting from January 7.

Interior parts of the state are likely to experience continued dry conditions, though residents should prepare for light fog during the early morning hours. Minimum temperatures are expected to gradually fall by two to three degrees Celsius across the region, remaining below the normal range in several areas.

In the hill stations, authorities have warned of frost at isolated locations in the Nilgiris and the Kodaikanal hill areas of Dindigul district during the late night and early morning periods. For the capital city of Chennai and its surrounding suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy.

The maximum temperature in the city is likely to hover around twenty nine to thirty degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may range between twenty one and twenty two degrees Celsius. Early morning fog remains a possibility for commuters.
