
Bhubaneswar, 05 January (H.S.): The Odisha Police on Monday suspended the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of CRRI police station in Cuttack city following his arrest on graft charges.
Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania placed the accused officer, Bijaya Kumar Barik, under suspension with immediate effect. The suspension order was issued under the powers conferred by Rule 840 of the Police Manual Rules (PMR), 1940. The Odisha Police is also considering initiating departmental disciplinary proceedings against him.
As per the order, during the suspension period, Barik will remain under the disciplinary control of the Police Commissioner of the Twin City (Bhubaneswar–Cuttack) and will be entitled to subsistence and dearness allowances (SA & DA) in accordance with Rule 90 of the Orissa Service Code.
The Vigilance wing had arrested the 43-year-old officer on Sunday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor trader. He was caught red-handed at Raj Mahal Square in Bhubaneswar while receiving the bribe amount.
