Kolkata, 05 January (H.S.):

A tragic incident unfolded in Park Circus area of Kolkata on the first Sunday of the new year. A 55-year-old woman died on the spot when the roof of her house suddenly collapsed during the early hours of the cold night while she was asleep. Three other members of the family, including a child, were seriously injured in the accident and have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On information, the local councillor arrived at the scene early in the morning. He said that the house was very old and in a dilapidated condition. The landlord had been warned previously to carry out repairs, but he had ignored the warnings. It is suspected that the lack of repairs led to the accident.

The police and administration have launched an investigation into the matter and are looking into the causes of the accident.
