Jorhat (Assam), 5 January (HS): A drug trafficker was arrested with narcotics valued at over ₹20 lakh during a joint operation at Moriani railway station on Monday, officials said today.

The arrested accused has been identified as Raju Kumar Ram, a resident of Bihar. The contraband was seized from the Vivek Express during a routine checking exercise by security personnel.

According to official sources, the narcotics were being transported along the Hojai–Tinsukia route when the consignment was intercepted and seized. Preliminary investigation suggests that the drugs were intended for further distribution in Upper Assam.

Security agencies have launched a detailed probe to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network.----------
