Cold Wave Relents, Dense Fog Throws Life Out of Gear Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, 05 January (H.S.): The intensity of the cold wave has slightly eased across Odisha, bringing marginal relief from biting winter conditions. However, dense fog has emerged as a major challenge, disrupting normal life in several parts of the state.

Since the early morning hours, a thick layer of fog has engulfed many regions, severely reducing visibility and causing inconvenience to commuters. Road traffic, particularly on highways and in rural areas, has been affected as drivers struggled with poor visibility during peak travel hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist across Odisha until January 7. According to the weather department, northern and interior districts are expected to experience more intense fog during this period.

The IMD has forecast very dense fog in Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, and Nayagarh districts. In view of the adverse conditions, an Orange Warning has been issued for these districts. Residents have been advised to remain alert, especially during early morning and late-night hours when visibility is at its lowest.

Meteorologists have noted an increase in cloud cover over several districts, which is likely to result in a gradual rise in night temperatures over the next few days. While minimum temperatures are expected to inch upward, foggy conditions are likely to continue, affecting daily activities and transportation.

The IMD has also stated that no major change in overall weather conditions is expected over the next five days. Authorities have urged commuters to adhere to traffic advisories, use fog lights while driving, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of dense fog to ensure safety.
