Chennai, 04 January (H.S.) : Congress MP Manickam Tagore has launched a sharp political attack on the AIADMK, alleging that the party has been significantly weakened under the leadership of Edappadi K Palaniswami. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Tagore claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party is attempting to take over and diminish the influence of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. He further stated that the credit for transforming the AIADMK into what he termed as Amit Shah AIADMK belongs solely to its current general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami.
The Congress leader suggested that the AIADMK is currently facing its last election as a major political force and predicted that Palaniswami would be its final general secretary. Tagore also pointed toward internal friction within the state unit of the BJP, remarking on a supposed factional feud between former state chief K Annamalai and the current chief Nainar Nagenthran. He asserted that any political party in Tamil Nadu that chooses to ally with the BJP will inevitably face defeat, citing the success of the DMK led alliance in recent elections.
Responding to these allegations, AIADMK authorities and leaders have dismissed the remarks as a reflection of the opposition's fear regarding the party's growing influence. AIADMK leader RB Udhaya Kumar countered by attacking the ruling DMK government, highlighting issues such as increased property taxes, electricity charges, and essential commodity prices.
He also raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation and financial mismanagement in the state. As the political battle for the 2026 assembly elections intensifies, both sides continue to exchange heated statements regarding alliances and governance performance in Tamil Nadu.
