Chennai, 04 January (H.S.) : Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin expressed profound grief over the demise of senior Dravidian stalwart and DMK high level action committee member L Ganesan, who passed away on Sunday morning.

Ganesan, who was 92 years old, breathed his last at his residence in Thanjavur due to age related health complications. The Chief Minister, accompanied by cabinet colleagues KN Nehru and Anbil Mahesh, visited Thanjavur to pay their last respects and offer floral tributes to the mortal remains of the veteran leader.

In a formal condolence message, Stalin hailed Ganesan as a principled ideologue and a fearless commander of the historic student movement that rose against the imposition of Hindi in 1965. He recalled that Ganesan, affectionately known as LG, enjoyed the deep trust of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and served as his parliamentary secretary in 1989.

The Chief Minister described his passing as an irreparable loss to the Dravidian movement, noting Ganesan’s distinguished service across the state assembly, the legislative council, and the parliament throughout his long political career.

Authorities and party leaders noted that Ganesan’s political journey was marked by his commitment to social justice and Tamil identity. He had represented the Orathanadu constituency thrice as an MLA and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Tiruchy in 2004.

Stalin personally recalled how the veteran leader would always speak with pride about the public response to the Dravidian model of governance during their interactions. The final rites for the departed leader are scheduled to be held on January 5 at his native village, Kannanthangudi, near Orathanadu.
