Chennai, 19 January (H.S.) : Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament Kanimozhi on Monday criticized the first phase of election promises announced by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Speaking to the media in Hosur, she alleged that several schemes proposed by the opposition party are merely repetitions of earlier initiatives that failed to see actual implementation.
Kanimozhi specifically pointed to the promise of providing two-wheelers for women, noting that a similar project was launched in 2018 with much fanfare but yielded no results. She contrasted this with the DMK's current administration, which she stated has already empowered women by providing a monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 under ongoing welfare schemes.
According to authority versions, the AIADMK's new manifesto includes the Women’s Welfare Kulavilakku Scheme, offering Rs 2,000 monthly, and an enhanced rural employment program. However, Kanimozhi maintained that the public would not trust these promises given the party's past performance.
Beyond the manifesto, the MP also commented on the central government's use of investigative agencies, referring to the recent questioning of Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Karur stampede case. She alleged that these agencies are frequently utilized against political opponents.
Additionally, she dismissed recent remarks by Governor RN Ravi regarding the state's education quality, questioning his understanding of Tamil Nadu’s academic achievements.
The remarks come as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for the first half of the year.
