Rairangpur Declared New Police District in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, 14 January (H.S.): The Odisha government has notified the creation of a new police district at Rairangpur, marking another step towards strengthening the state’s policing and administrative framework.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, the Rairangpur Police District has been carved out by bifurcating the existing Mayurbhanj Police District, with its headquarters established at Rairangpur. With this addition, the total number of police districts in Odisha has increased to 35.

The move is aimed at improving administrative efficiency, enhancing coordination, and ensuring more effective policing in the region. The newly formed police district will function with two Sub-Divisional Police Offices (SDPOs) located at Rairangpur and Karanjia. It will comprise 14 police stations, five outposts, and two beat houses.

Earlier, the state government had created additional police districts in Ganjam and Sundargarh to bolster law enforcement. Rourkela and Berhampur were established as separate police districts alongside the existing 30 district police units, as well as the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Urban Police Districts.

Officials said the latest reorganisation reflects the government’s continued focus on decentralising policing and strengthening public safety mechanisms across Odisha.
