New Delhi, 14 January (H.S.): The Ministry of External Affairs issued an advisory on Wednesday, counseling Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran until further notice due to ongoing developments in the country. This follows a similar advisory released on January 5.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Iran has urged all Indians currently in the country—students, pilgrims, traders, and tourists—to depart at the earliest using any available means of transportation, including commercial flights. The embassy stated that, given the changing situation in Iran, Indian citizens presently there are advised to leave Iran via available transport options such as commercial flights.
The embassy has cautioned Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin to exercise utmost caution and steer clear of protest sites. Additionally, Indians have been requested to keep their travel documents ready and contact the Indian Embassy for assistance.
The Indian Embassy has released the following emergency contact helpline numbers: Mobile numbers +98 9128109115; +98 9128109109; +98 9128109102; +98 9932179359. Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in. All Indians residing in Iran have been instructed to register with the embassy using this link: https://www.meaers.com/request/home.
Notably, anti-inflation protests in Iran, which intensified following U.S. sanctions, have now transformed into anti-government demonstrations. Reports indicate fatalities among protesters due to government actions.
