Cooch Behar, 9 August (H.S.): The son of Pundimari’s Dowaguri Panchayat in Cooch Behar was shot in broad daylight on Saturday. The victim, identified as Amar Roy, succumbed to his injuries at the scene during a shooting in the crowded Dodher Hat area of Block 2, while visiting the weekly market.

As per information, Amar Roy went to the market accompanied by a friend to purchase meat. A dispute with occupants of a nearby bike escalated, and Roy was shot in head and his friend was also wounded and is currently undergoing treatment at a local private hospital .

The police have confirmed that two individuals arrived on motorcycles and fled the scene after the shooting. The Cooch Behar police launched an investigation and are conducting searches for the suspects. A heavy police force was deployed in the area after the shoot out.

Reacting to the incident, Trinamool party spokesperson and former MP Parthapratim Roy said, “This follows successive attacks on TMC members in Cooch Behar. How is it that the Panchayat chief’s son could be murdered in broad daylight? Where is the security?” .
