Etah,
09 Aug (HS): A 14-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district filed a
complaint against her parents on Friday, alleging that they assaulted her after
she indicated a wish to continue her education. The parents, Digambar Singh and
his wife Lata Devi, are now facing legal prosecution under Section 75 of the
Juvenile Justice Act (penalty for child maltreatment), they claimed. According
to officials, the crime occurred on July 25 and was reported to the Jalesar
police station in Etah district on August 5. Citing a complaint submitted by
Bhavna Singh, a Class 10 student at Siddhartha Inter College in Jalesar, the
police stated that on July 25, the girl urged her parents to register her in
the school so that she could take the test.
Her
parents refused her request, stating that they do not have the money to educate
her. When she persisted on schooling
herself and her younger brother Ramraj, her father beat her up at home and then
on the Agra-Jalesar Road during the travel, according to the police. They
stated that when a bystander, Ankit Pradhan, noticed Digambar abusing the girl,
he ran to her aid. Ankit Pradhan accompanied Bhavna, her brother, and their
mother to a police checkpoint in Jalesar.
Lata Devi then vanished with her kid and did not return to the police
station for an extended period of time, according to authorities. The
14-year-old girl further stated in her complaint that her father dialed 112 and
provided false information that Ankit Pradhan had kidnapped his wife.
The
14-year-old girl stated that she wants to study and educate her younger
brother. It is my sincere desire to the Justice Board that appropriate
preparations be made for my schooling and that of my brother. And take proper
legal action against my father, Digambar Singh, who beat me and pushed me out
of the house, and my mother, Lata, who abandoned me, she claimed in her
complaint. A complaint was filed in Jalesar, and it has been forwarded to the
Juvenile Justice Protection Board.
Despite being summoned multiple times, the parents failed to appear in
court. Finally, the court named Sudhir
Kumar, the police station's in-charge, as the girl's guardian, they added.
Jalesar
SHO Sudhir Kumar stated that the girl's father is a peon at Siya Devi Degree
College, a chronic drinker, and a quarrelsome individual by nature. Husband and
wife have had a long-standing disagreement, and they now live separately. Some years ago, the wife filed a case of
attempted murder against the husband. SHO has accepted responsibility for the
girl and enrolled her in school so she may continue her studies, as well as
providing books, uniforms, and Rs 2,000 cash for any extra expenditure. SHO
Kumar stated that when the child returns from Noida in a month, attempts would
be made to enroll her in an appropriate residential school such as Kasturba
Gandhi or Sainik Vidyalaya so that she may complete her education even without
her parents.
