Mumbai, 09 Aug (HS): Nine police personnel from Thane
Central were suspended following the escape of two prisoners from the jail, for
dereliction of duty. Enquiry against the suspended police personnel has also
been initiated.
According to a police officer from Thane, seven head
constables, Gangaram Ghule, Bhikaji Patil, Vilas Jagannath Mohite, Kishor Shirke,
Ashok Vishvambhar Munde, Sandip Suryakant Kharat, Sunil Dinkar Nikalje, Bharat
Sangram Jaibhaye, and Vijram Anand Jambure, had taken seven prisoners for a
check-up at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Hospital. During a surprise inspection, only five of the seven were found. One of the five was
sitting outside, paying no attention, and was on a phone call. Two
other prisoners, Karan Dhabalia and Rajeshbhai Plumber, were missing.
HC Gangaram initially told that the two had gone to
a washroom, but were not found anywhere in the hospital premises.
Police suspect that some police personnel in the escort
team had a hand in the glow and allowed the prisoners to escape from the hospital. They
have been suspended, and enquiry has been initiated against them.
