Bhubaneswar, 6 August (H.S.)In a tragic incident, three members of a family lost their lives after a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind at Jagmohan Chhak on National Highway-49 under Telkoi block in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Tanka Patra, his wife, and their 11-year-old daughter. According to sources, the family was travelling from Bahadapashi village under Barkote police limits in Deogarh district when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, approaching from behind at high speed, struck the motorcycle with force, causing the riders to lose balance and fall. The truck then ran over them, resulting in their death on the spot.
Following the incident, the truck involved in the fatal crash was intercepted near the Janasanpur toll gate. Telkoi police have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation into the matter.
The accident sparked tension in the area, as local residents staged a protest demanding immediate action to prevent frequent accidents on the stretch. The demonstration led to a traffic jam, with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway. Authorities are working to restore normalcy and address the concerns raised by the locals.
