Varanasi, 06 Aug (HS): The Public Works Department workers have
removed the shrine of Sayyed Baba on Bhojubir to Sindhora road in Varanasi and
leveled the place. Departmental officials admitted that the shrine being on the
main road was a hindrance to vehicular movement. On July 20, the district
administration had removed the encroachment of Lat Shahi Mazar situated in the
Circuit House premises. Since then, there was a demand to remove Syed Baba's
Mazar. Many social workers including advocate Vineet had demanded a systematic
route by removing Syed Baba's Mazar. After this, there were also demonstrations
to remove the Mazar.
According to Public Works Department
official KK Singh, in the past years, religious places have been displaced or
demolished during road widening and flyover construction in Varanasi. In this
sequence, the workers of the Public Works Department have also demolished the
Syed Baba Mazar. In future, more such religious places can be demolished if
they create hindrance in traffic on the main roads.
