Hooghly, 6 August (H.S.): Continuous rains across West Bengal have caused a series of house collapse incidents. Three houses already reported to have been collapsed in Kolkata. Now, a similar incident has occurred in the Tamlipada area of Chuchura in Hooghly district, where a portion of a dilapidated house collapsed on Tuesday evening.

The house, owned by Haridas Dutta, had earlier been declared unsafe by Hooghly - Chuchura Municipality. However, owing to dispute between the property’s co-owners, the demolition process was stalled. On Tuesday, a part of the house’s rear side collapsed suddenly, blocking the entrance of the neighboring Das family’s residence.

As a result, Savita Das and her grandson were trapped inside their home. On information, the fire brigade reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. Chuchura MLA Asit Majumdar and Jaydev Adhikari, Chairman-in-Council (Health) of Hooghly Chuchura Municipality, also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

The municipal workers cleared the debris from the entrance of the Das family's house, and they were taken out safely. No casualties were reported in the incident.
