Kolkata, 6 August (H.S.) Intensive interrogation of the four accused arrested in the case of gang rape of a student of Kolkata's Kasba Law College began at Lalbazar Police Headquarters on Tuesday night.
The main accused Manojit Mishra, law college students Jayeb Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee and college guard Pinaki Banerjee were brought to Lalbazar for interrogation. During the court appearance on Tuesday, Manojit Mishra's lawyer Raju Ganguly and Pinaki Banerjee's lawyer Dibyendu Bhattacharya filed a bail application for them, while Jayeb and Pramit's lawyers did not file any bail plea. This was the first time a bail plea was filed on behalf of Manojit.
However, the police strongly opposed it. The police told the court that they had recently received electronic evidence, digital forensic report, CCTV footage and the report of the Central Forensic Lab. The police claimed that many discrepancies have been found in the statements given earlier by the accused and the reports received, which require investigation.
The police also told the court that Manojit and his associates are influential people and if they are granted bail, they can influence the witnesses.
Accepting the arguments of the police, the court ordered to send the four accused back to police custody till August 8. At present, all the four accused are being interrogated.
