06 Aug (HS): A 15-year-old rape survivor in Deoria has given birth to a baby

girl, and police stated on Wednesday that they have started the process of

determining the baby's father through DNA tests. Shashikant Kumar Gaur, the

accused, has been apprehended and sentenced to prison. The incident occurred

eight months ago, when the accused reportedly raped a minor from a village near

Surauli police station and threatened to murder her if she reported it. The family found out about the pregnancy

later, according to officials.

On

July 23, 2025, a FIR was filed under sections 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya

Sanhita and provisions of the severe Protection of Children from Sexual

Offences (POCSO) Act, resulting in the arrest of Gaur, a local, according to a

senior police official.

The

minor's condition worsened three days ago, prompting her to be admitted to the

Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, where she gave birth to a healthy baby

girl, according to Deoria Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer. The officer

stated that while the accused is in jail, the DNA test process has begun to

legally establish the child's father identification. The district police head

stated that any further action will be taken only with judicial approval. Police

reported that both the mother and the infant are in stable condition.
