Shahjahanpur,
06 Aug (HS): Two constables assigned to the Allahganj police station here have
been suspended for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh from a man after Rs 50 lakh
was briefly deposited to his bank account, officials said on Wednesday. Monu
Rathore, a resident of Allahganj town, filed a formal complaint on Tuesday,
stating that Rs 50 lakh was inexplicably placed into his bank account and then
withdrawn. Rathore claimed that constables Dharmendra Kumar and Javed Ali found
out about the trade and wanted Rs 25 lakh from him, threatening police action
if he did not cooperate, according to the SP.
In
his complaint, Rathore claimed the constables called him and eventually reduced
their demand to Rs 10 lakh. He also
claimed to have recorded the conversation for evidence, Dwivedi said.
After
a preliminary investigation revealed that the two constables had demanded
money, they were declared prima facie guilty and suspended, according to the
SP. The officer further stated that a departmental investigation has been
launched against both constables. Furthermore, the cybercrime section has been
entrusted with determining the source of the Rs 50 lakh transaction and tracing
where the money went once it was taken.
